We are pleased to share our new publication, titled “IL-34 as a Novel Mediator Linking Vitamin D Deficiency with Osteoporosis and Knee Osteoarthritis”, published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. Our study reveals that vitamin D deficiency is strongly associated with elevated IL-34 levels, intensified inflammatory activity, and a higher risk of osteoporosis and knee osteoarthritis. We demonstrate that IL-34 plays a central mechanistic role linking low vitamin D status with bone loss and joint degeneration. These findings highlight IL-34 as a promising biomarker and a potential therapeutic target. https://doi.org/10.3390/ijms262211090 Figure legend.   מחקר חדש שפורסם: קשרים גנטיים משותפים בין הרכב גוף, אדיפוקינים ונכות כתוצאה מכאב גב תחתון ד"ר נאדר טרביה והצוות המחקרי שלו מאוניברסיטת אריאל ואוניברסיטת תל אביב פרסמו לאחרונה מאמר פורץ דרך בכתב העת היוקרתי Biomolecules . המחקר בחן את התרומה של גורמים גנטיים לקשרים שבין הרכב הגוף (כמו מסת שומן, מסת שריר ומים חוץ-תאיים), רמות בדם של אדיפוקינים (חלבונים המופרשים מרקמת שומן), ורמת הנכות התפקודית הנגרמת מכאבי גב תחתון כרוניים (LBP-DS). בקרב מדגם של מעל 1,000 משתתפים מ-98 משפחות ערביות בישראל, נמדדו משתנים של הרכב גוף, רמות אדיפוקינים בדם, ונכות כתוצאה מכאב גב. הממצאים הצביעו על כך ש: קיים רכיב גנטי מובהק בנכות הקשורה לכאב גב תחתון. האדיפוקינים GDF-15, chemerin ו-follistatin נמצאו בעלי קשר גנטי מובהק עם LBP-DS. משתני הרכב גוף כמו BMI, היקף מותניים ו-ECW היו אף הם בעלי השפעה גנטית מובהקת. המחקר השתמש בכלים מתקדמים כמו variance component analysis ו- principal phenotype analysis כדי לזהות משתנים פנוטיפיים סינתטיים המייצגים את ההשפעה הגנטית המשולבת של מספר גורמים. המש...

Nader Tarabeih (נאדר טרביה) is a Postdoctoral student in the deparment of Morphological Sciences, Adelson School of Medicine, Ariel University, under the supervision of Professor Gregory Livshits. my Ph.D research work was based fully on the data, collection which was organized and conducted and, which resulted in extensive bulk of data on >1,000(!) individuals from complex Arab pedigrees living in the area of Sakhnin, and comprising 98 nuclear families. The data included blood samples, comprehensive pain questionnaires, anthropometric measurements and bioimpedance assessment of body composition, measurements of the spinal scoliosis, 200 CT/MRI scans, extensive clinical data relevant to the project. During my work on PhD project, i learned techniques of the biochemical analysis of the circulating levels of various blood factors, and in collaboration with the staff of the lab conducted ELISA assays of 15 cytokines and growth factors in his entire sample.
